What Is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a suite of Ethereum scaling solutions designed to make decentralized apps faster and cheaper to use. Its flagship public rollup chain is Arbitrum One, while ARB gives holders governance rights over the ecosystem's ongoing evolution.
What Can You Do With Arbitrum?
ARB is primarily used for Arbitrum DAO governance. Holders can vote on proposals directly or delegate their voting power, helping shape the future of Arbitrum's protocols and chains.
How Much Is One ARB Worth?
ARB's price changes continuously with market activity. Check our platform for the live ARB price before you buy or sell.
When Did Arbitrum Start?
Arbitrum One publicly launched on August 31, 2021. The ARB governance token distribution began on March 23, 2023 as part of the transition toward decentralized governance.
Is Arbitrum a Good Investment?
ARB may appeal to buyers who want exposure to Ethereum scaling and onchain governance within a major Layer 2 ecosystem. The investment case depends on continued Arbitrum usage, ecosystem growth, and the importance of governance rights over time.
ARB is a governance token, not gas
This trips people up constantly: fees on Arbitrum are paid in ETH, not in ARB. Holding ARB does not let you transact on the chain, and buying ARB expecting to use it for gas leaves you with a wallet that cannot move. What ARB does is vote — on the Arbitrum DAO's treasury, on protocol upgrades, and on the grant programmes that fund the ecosystem. If you want to use Arbitrum, you need ETH bridged onto it. If you want a say in how Arbitrum is run, you need ARB. They are separate purchases.
Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova are different chains
Arbitrum One is the general-purpose rollup where the DeFi activity lives, posting its data to Ethereum. Arbitrum Nova uses a data availability committee instead, which makes it much cheaper and is aimed at gaming and social applications where the cost per transaction matters more than maximal security guarantees. Both are Arbitrum, both use 0x addresses, and a balance on one is not a balance on the other. Check which chain your wallet is pointed at before you send anything anywhere.
